La Ferte-Milon is a French commune with 2,085 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Soissons and the canton of Villers-Cotterêts .

geography

The municipality is located on the banks of the canalized Ourcq River , 70 kilometers northeast of Paris and 30 kilometers southwest of Soissons . The municipality of La Ferté-Milon borders the Oise department to the west and south .

history

La Ferté-Milon belonged to the Arrondissement of Château-Thierry until 1926 , then to the Arrondissement of Soissons until 1942 . The reorganization of 1926 was reversed in 1942. In 1960 the place Saint-Quentin-sur-Allan was incorporated.

  • Ruins of the castle, which Louis de Valois, duc d'Orléans commissioned, but which was not completed. Henry IV had the fortifications torn down. The castle facade measures 200 meters in length and is 38 meters high ( Monument historique ).
