Laffaux is a commune with 149 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (former Region: Picardie ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Soissons and is part of the canton of Fère-en-Tardenois and the communal association Communauté de communes du Val de l'Aisne . The municipality was awarded the Croix de guerre award from 1914 to 1918.
geography
The municipality with the districts Le Moulin de Laffaux and La Ferme Notre-Dame, 14 km northeast of Soissons , is located with its center west of Route nationale 2 and is touched in the west by the La Plaine – Hirson railway line . Neighboring communities are Vauxaillon in the north, Allemant in the northeast, Nanteuil-la-Fosse in the east, Margival in the south and Neuville-sur-Margival in the west.
history
During the First World War , fighting took place in Laffaux in 1917 at the Chemin des Dames as part of the Battle of the Aisne . During the Second World War , the Fuehrer's headquarters in Wolfsschlucht 2 , which was also used for military purposes after the war, was built in the forest in part on the municipal area. For this purpose, the residents were resettled in 1944.
