shipping

The Ourcq was partially diverted at the beginning of the 19th century on the initiative of Napoléon I and expanded for shipping. In the section between the village of Silly-la-Poterie and Mareuil-sur-Ourcq , the river was canalized over a length of 11 kilometers and set up for freight traffic with the help of three locks . In the section between Mareuil-sur-Ourcq and Lizy-sur-Ourcq , the Canal de l'Ourcq was built parallel to the river as a side canal , which leaves the Ourcq valley at Lizy-sur-Ourcq and continues into the urban area of Paris .
