al-Qamar

Al-Qamar ( Arabic القمر, DMG al-Qamar  'The Moon') is the 54th sura of the Koran , it contains 55 verses . The proclamation of the sura belongs to the beginning of the second Meccan period (615–620). Verses 44, 45 and 46 are excluded, in which, with reference to the fall of the Pharaoh, a connection is made with the defeat of Muhammad's opponents in the Battle of Badr in 624. The title refers to the first verse in which the “split moon” heralds the “hour of judgment”.

After a quarrel with the unbelieving Meccans, the judgments of God are remembered, whereby the people of Noah , ʿĀd and Thamud and the people of Lot are mentioned first. Each section ends with the refrain “And we have made the Koran easy to remember. But is there anyone who thinks about it? ”After the reference to Pharaoh and the transition to the then current situation, the sura closes with the punishment of the unbelievers in Hellfire and the reward of the godly in the Paradise Gardens .
