The ʿĀd ( Arabic عاد, DMG ʿĀd ) were, according to the Koran, a people in the area between today's Oman and Yemen . According to the Koran, they were the descendants of ʿAd, a great grandson of Shem , one of the three sons of Noah , the forefather of the Semites .

Their capital is said to have been a city called Iram . The Koran reports in sura 89 , verses 6-8 that the city was destroyed by Allah after the people began to worship idols. The Prophet Hūd was previously sent by Allah to warn the people.

They are often mentioned in the Koran together with the people Lots and the Thamud .
