az-Zumar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Az-Zumar ( Arabic الزمر az-Zumar  'The multitudes') is the 39th sura of the Koran , it contains 75 verses . The preaching of the sura falls towards the end of the third Meccan period (620–622), with the exception of a few verses, although there are different opinions about their number and exact places. Its title refers to verse 71, according to which the unbelievers are driven "in droves" to hell .

The sura contains numerous expressions and themes that are well known from many other suras: monotheism ; Signs of God in the creation of heaven and earth, man and beast; Attitude of believers and unbelievers ; God the Judge; Impermanence of man; Mercy and severity of God, and finally the Last Judgment . When describing believers and unbelievers, the large number of unfinished sentences is striking, for example: "Is there one who guards with his face from the terrible torment on the day of the resurrection ...?" (From verse 24).
