al-Humaza

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Al-Humaza ( Arabic الهمزة, DMG al-Humaza  'Der Stichler') is the 104th sura of the Koran , it contains 9 verses . The sura is one of the early parts of the Qur'an that was revealed in Mecca (610–615). Their title refers to the first verse.

In the first verse, defensive cries are uttered against "sticklers and naggers" (Arabic humaza lumaza ), who slander their fellow men and damage their reputation, which can happen both through words and deeds, whereby they rely on their wealth before them protects against death. Muslim commentators largely agree that this refers to two wealthy Meccans and contemporaries of Mohammed who opposed the Prophet. They are threatened with a punishment in the afterlife . The hell is not mentioned literally in this sura, but the terms "fire of God" and al-Hutama (ٱلحطمة) circumscribed. Hutama means something like “crushers” or “wolverine”, literally: who makes everything short and small.
