At-Talaq ( Arabic الطلاق aṭ-Ṭalāq  'The Discharge') is the 65th sura of the Koran , it contains 12 verses . It wasproclaimedin Medina , the title referring to the content of the first seven verses.

The sura is divided into two clearly different sections. The first part with verses 1-7 deals with the eponymous “dismissal”, which means divorce . These verses are a supplement to the corresponding provisions of Sura 2 , 226 ff., In which, among other things, the waiting time ( Idda عدة) of the woman after the divorce is specified. For both the separation and the return of the woman, “two righteous people of yours are required to witness”. The second section from verse 8 speaks of the cities that rebelled against the Messenger of God and of their punishment. This can be understood as the advance notice of the end-time judgment .
