Quraish (sura)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quraish ( Arabic قريش, DMG Quraisch ) is the 106th sura of the Koran , it contains 4 verses . Its title refers to the first verse. With the preceding Surah Al-Fīl it forms a unit of content.

In both suras the tribe of the Quraish is exhorted to serve God, the Lord of the Kaaba in Mecca , i.e. H. to join Islam . This is one of the earliest subjects in the Quran. This sura is one of the first Koran texts to be revealed in Mecca.

The Quraish tribe had no lands or flocks. As residents of Mecca and guardians of the Kaaba, a center of pilgrimage since ancient times, the Quraish were taboo for the other tribes, so that they could carry out their winter and summer caravan journeys undisturbed and in safety and thus secure supplies for the city residents.

Another interpretation does not see the caravans, but focuses on shipping.

By the Lord of the House in the third verse, God is meant as Lord of the Kaaba.
