al-Māʿūn

Al-Māʿūn ( Arabic الماعون, DMG al-Māʿūn  'The Help') is the 107th sura of the Koran , it contains 7 verses . Its title refers to the last word of the 7th verse.

The first three verses of the sura call for belief in the Last Judgment and for social action. This part is consistently considered Meccan . The second part with verses 4 to 7 is directed against hypocritical prayers and demands correct observance of the compulsory prayer . According to Islamic tradition, it was revealed in Medina . "Assistance" in verse 7 includes everything that people need, including the later statutory zakat levy .
