al-Muzzammil

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Al-Muzzammil ( Arabic المزمل, DMG al-Muzzammil  'He who has wrapped himself up') is the 73rd sura of the Koran , it contains 20 verses . Its title refers to the first verse. In his History of the Qorān , Theodor Nöldeke dates this sura to the first Meccan period (610–615), with the exception of verses 10, 11 and 20, which were later added in Medina .

The sura consists entirely of regulations for fulfilling the compulsory prayer and its content can be divided into three parts. Ibn Abbas brings the first, eponymous verse That you enveloped yourself into the context of the experience of Muhammad on Mount Hirā ' when he saw the Archangel Gabriel . The first part with verses 1 to 4 is kept general and calls for a slow and clear reading of the verses of the Koran. The second part, with verses 5 to 19, contains a few words about God's judgment . The long final verse again refers to the content of the first part and grants certain groups of people relief when reading the verses of the Koran. The final verse also stands out linguistically, as the final rhyme that closes verses 1 to 19 is broken here .
