Verse 2 deals with illicit sexual intercourse ( zinā ). It is regulated there that he is to be punished with flogging.

The so-called "defamation report " ( Chabar al-ifk or Hadīth al-ifk ) occupies a large space in the Arabic tradition about Aisha bint Abi Bakr . Accordingly, Aisha was accused of fornication , but exonerated through a revelation (verses 11-20).

Verse 31 forms the Koranic basis in Islam for the headscarf requirement for women. The passage literally means: "They [the women] should have their chumur (sing. Chimar  /خمار / ḫimār ) over their pockets ”, although the actual meaning of the chumur is unclear, but is traditionally understood as a headscarf , for example in the Koran commentary by the Islamic historian and scholar Tabari (around 900 AD). The German philologist and Islamic scholar Paret (1901–1983) translates as “they should pull their scarf over the slit (of the dress) (which goes down from the neckline)”. The verse also enumerates all exceptions to which the veil requirement does not apply, since these people belong to those with whom marriage is forbidden ( mahram ). People are also mentioned who - such as children - do not observe the dieAurāt of women. However, these three passages in the Koran do not clearly show what specifically falls under ʿAurāt . See also headscarf dispute .

In verse 33 believers are asked to issue a kitāb to their slaves who desire a license ( kitāb ), but not to let their female slaves work as prostitutes. See also slavery in Islam .

For verse 35 see light verse .

Verses 47–56 stipulate that Mohammed should be consulted as a judicial authority in disputes among Muslims.

According to verse 58, anyone who has not yet reached puberty should ask for permission before entering at three times (before early prayer, at noon and after evening prayer) at which ʿaurāt can be seen. However, anyone who has reached sexual maturity according to verse 59 must always ask permission before entering.
