ash-shams

Ash-Shams ( Arabic الشمس asch-Schams 'The Sun') is the 91st sura of the Koran , it contains 15 verses . The sura is one of the early parts of the Qur'an that wasrevealedin Mecca . Their title refers to the first verse.

In terms of content, the sura consists of two parts. The first ten verses call upon the sun, the moon, the day, the night, the sky, the earth and the soul to lead a righteous life. In the 8th verse the term Ilhām appears ( Arabic إلهام), which literally denotes a process of "letting it be swallowed" or "letting it be swallowed", but is generally translated as " inspiration ". At the point mentioned, an oath is made by the one who has "given the soul its sinfulness and its fear of God " ( alhamahā fuǧūrahā wa-taqwāhā ).

The second part of the sura comprises verses 11 to 15 and recalls the punishment of the wicked from the tribe of Thamud .
