Al-Isrāʾ , Arabic الإسراء, DMG al-isrāʾ  'The Nocturnal Journey', is the 17th sura of the Koran . Another name of the sura is "The Children of Israel" ( Banī Isrā'īl ), which are mentioned in the second verse of the sura. One also finds the title Subhāna (“price be”), which takes over the first word of the sura. Her main themes are the oneness of God , accounts of Judgment Day, and the social order. There are also reports about the prophets Adam, David, Mohammed, Moses and Noah and the exile of the devil from heaven.

The sura contains 111 verses and was revealed in Mecca . In it is reported that the Prophet Mohammed a nocturnal journey had taken from Mecca to the "distant place of worship" (al-Aqsa), inter alia, in the biography of the Prophet by Ibn Ishaq with Jerusalem is identified (bait al-Maqdis).

In sura 17:45 (and sura 41 : 5), hijab denotes the dividing wall between Muhammad and the unbelievers.

Verses 23 to 39 contain a moral code whose norms correspond to those of the biblical Ten Commandments .
