Al-Jathiya ( Arabic الجاثية al-Ǧāṯiya 'Who  sits on her knees'; 'Those who are on their knees') is the 45th sura of the Koran , it contains 37 verses . The sura belongs to the third Meccan period (620–622), with the exception of verse 14, which wasproclaimedin Medina . The title refers to verse 28, which describes how each community kneels in anticipation of judgment .

After the introductory basmala , the sura begins with the letters Ḥā Mīm , which are also at the beginning of suras 40, 41, 42, 43, 44 and 46. The first six verses extol the omnipotence of God, after which the rest of the text contains threats against the unbelievers and the adversaries of the prophet Mohammed. In verse 18, the term Sharia appears for the only time in the Koran , meaning a safe path in the desert: “Then we brought you on a clear path in the matter of faith. So follow him and don't follow the inclinations of those who do not know. "
