al-Jumʿa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Al-Jumʿa ( Arabic الجمعة al-Ǧumʿa  'Friday') is the 62nd sura of the Koran , it contains 11 verses . It wasproclaimedin Medina and is related to the dispute with the Jews there. The eponymous Friday is set in verse 9 as the day of prayer, combined with the duty to put the business on hold.

According to a tradition, Friday was chosen as the day of community prayer in contrast to the Jewish Sabbath and Christian Sunday . Business transactions carried out after the call to prayer has sounded are interpreted differently by representatives of the various schools of law : For the Shāfiʿites , they are not forbidden , but only frowned upon ; Malik declares them invalid, with the exception of slavery , marriage and divorce; Ibn al-'Arabi considers all of these deals to be invalid.
