Ferdinand Franz Karl Wilhelm von Dannenberg (born December 14, 1818 in Wessin , † August 30, 1893 in Berlin ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Ferdinand was a family member of the Dannenberg family , which belonged to the ancient nobility of Lüneburg . His father Julius von Dannenberg (1789–1862) was a Prussian Rittmeister a. D. and Mr. on Wessin . He was married to Charlotte Marianne Amalie, née von Netz (1798–1857), daughter of the state elder Ernst Heinrich von Netz on Kosemitz.

Military career

Coming from the cadet corps, Dannenberg joined the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 18, 1836 as a second lieutenant . From June 1842 to the end of November 1848 he served as an adjutant of the II Battalion. In this position he took part in the suppression of the barricade uprising in Berlin in 1848 and in the battle near Schleswig during the campaign in Denmark .

He later served as a general staff officer . As chief of the general staff of the Guard Corps, he worked in the German War in 1866 and took part in the fighting at Thrush , Queen's Court and the Battle of Königgrätz . For his achievements in operational management, Dannenberg was awarded the Order Pour le Mérite on September 20, 1866 . He also worked in the war against France in 1870/71, meanwhile promoted to major general, as chief of the general staff. In August 1871, Dannenberg was appointed commander of the 4th Guard Infantry Brigade . This was followed from October 15, 1874 as a commander of the 1st Guard Division . At the same time he was entrusted with the management of the business as commandant of Potsdam. After being released from these businesses, Dannenberg was appointed commander of the 2nd Guard Division on October 28, 1875 and promoted to Lieutenant General on November 4, 1875 with a patent from October 28, 1875 .

On June 14, 1881 he was appointed commanding general of the II Army Corps in Stettin . As such, Dannenberg received his promotion to General of the Infantry on March 22, 1884 and on August 18, 1886 he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Red Eagle Order on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service . Dannenberg married Luise Wilhelmine Karoline von Bastineller (1824-1900) on October 29, 1844 in Berlin. She was the daughter of the royal Westphalian major general Karl von Bastineller and Wilhelmine von Winterfeldt . The following children were born from the marriage:
