Ferdinand Gustav Hans von Arnim (born December 21, 1846 in Potsdam , † February 3, 1922 in Baden-Baden ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

He came from the aristocratic family von Arnim from Brandenburg . Arnim married on October 8, 1878 in Truttenhausen Elisabeth Freiin von Türckheim (born May 30, 1858 in Niederbronn , † June 3, 1958 in Baden-Baden), the daughter of Rudolf Freiherr von Türckheim and Jenny Bohn. Both sons were the economist and social scientist Achim von Arnim .

After training in the main cadet institute , Arnim was transferred to the 1st Guard Regiment on foot of the Prussian Army on April 18, 1865 as a portepeefähnrich . There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant on November 11, 1865, and as such he took part in the fighting at Thrush and Queenhof in 1866 during the war against Austria . Arnim was slightly wounded in the Battle of Königgrätz and was awarded the Order of the Crown, IV class with swords.

During the war against France , Arnim was adjutant of the replacement battalion in 1870/71 , but did not take an active part in combat operations. After the end of the war, he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on May 11, 1872 and was transferred to the 1st Baden Leib Grenadier Regiment No. 109 in Karlsruhe . There Arnim was promoted to captain and company commander on December 14, 1878 . In 1884 he was appointed adjutant of the 30th Division in Metz and in 1893 was promoted to serving wing adjutant to Emperor Wilhelm II. At the same time, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1896 he became a colonel and head of department in the military cabinet , and in 1898 he was appointed inspector of the hunters and riflemen .

In 1901 he was promoted to lieutenant general. From 1902 he commanded the 2nd Guard Division . From 1906 to March 2, 1910, Arnim was the military governor of the Metz fortress . Since October 16, 1906 he had the rank of general of the infantry.

Arnim was politically active as a member of the first chamber of the Alsace-Lorraine state parliament appointed by the emperor .
