August Georg Ferdinand von Bomsdorff (born September 18, 1842 in Charlottenburg , † September 10, 1912 in Großtabarz ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the Prussian major a. D. Wilhelm von Bomsdorff . The family is the earliest mentioned noble family in the margraviate of Niederlausitz .

Military career

Bomsdorff visited the cadet corps and was then transferred to the Guard Fusilier Regiment of the Prussian Army on July 15, 1860 as a Second Lieutenant . In mid-June 1867 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and in 1868/70 was commanded as adjutant of the 37th Infantry Brigade . In the meantime, on November 21, 1869, he had been transferred to the 1st Guard Regiment on foot . With this association , Bomsdorff took part in the war against France in 1870/71 as a captain and company commander and was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his services .

After the peace agreement, he was transferred to the General Staff on January 5, 1875 . Bomsdorff was then active in the General Staff of the Guard Corps from late October 1875 to mid-May 1882 . This was followed by a use in the General Staff of the XV. Army Corps . On November 23, 1882 he was ordered to serve as a wing adjutant to Kaiser Wilhelm I. With his promotion to lieutenant colonel , Bomsdorff was appointed wing adjutant on January 1, 1883. While remaining in his command, he was transferred to the General Staff of the Army and appointed Chief of the General Staff of the X Army Corps on September 23, 1884 . Left in this position, Bomsdorff was appointed commander of the 1st Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 26 on July 13, 1888 . At the same time he was promoted to major general , he commanded the 25th Infantry Brigade in Münster for three years from January 27, 1890 . On January 27, 1893, Bomsdorff was given the command of the 13th Division, which was also stationed in Münster . Simultaneously with his promotion to lieutenant general , he was appointed commander of this division on April 18, 1893. On July 10, 1893, Bomsdorff was released from this command, transferred to Berlin and appointed commander of the 2nd Guard Division .

On January 27, 1897, Bomsdorff was transferred to Posen , where he was initially charged with leading the V Army Corps . While being promoted to General of the Infantry, he received his appointment as Commanding General on April 17, 1897 . In the same capacity, Bomsdorff was active from April 4 to October 16, 1899 in Hanover with the X Army Corps . Finally, he then acted as governor of Berlin . In approval of his leave request Bomsdorff was appointed Chief of Infantry Regiment "Prince Leopold of Anhalt-Dessau" (1 Magdeburgisches) no. 26 on May 2, 1901 Pension for disposition made.

Bomsdorff married on July 26, 1870 in Oldenburg the baroness Amalie Agnes Kornelia Marie von Berg (born April 21, 1843).
