Johann Friedrich Karl II of Alvensleben
Johann Friedrich Karl II. Gebhard von Alvensleben (born September 7, 1778 in Eichenbarleben , † February 12, 1831 in Schochwitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and owner of the Schochwitz manor .
Life
family
He came from the Low German noble family von Alvensleben and was the youngest son of District Administrator Gebhard XXVIII. von Alvensleben (1734–1801) from Eichenbarleben and his wife Johanna Caroline Christiana, born von Alvensleben from the Calbe-Roda house (1746–1787). His father acquired the Schochwitz estate in 1783 and transferred it to him in 1799.
Military career
At the age of twelve he joined the Duke of Braunschweig's infantry regiment as a private corporal in July 1791 , became an ensign in April 1793 and in October 1797 - at the age of 19 - second lieutenant . In the Wars of Liberation in 1813 he fought with distinction in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden and Leipzig . Appointed Colonel in January 1814 , he led the Prussian Guards in the Battle of Paris on March 30, 1814 so successfully that Tsar Alexander I had his own Order of St. George brought to him on the battlefield . With his conquest of the village of Pantin , the way to Paris was clear. For this he also received the Knight's Cross of the Maria Theresa Order .
In 1817 Alvensleben was promoted to major general. From 1818 he was commander of the 1st Guard Division , from 1820 commander of the 2nd Guard Division . Promoted to lieutenant general in 1829, he had to say goodbye in 1830 for health reasons. As a knight of the order Pour le Mérite with oak leaves, both classes of the Iron Cross , the Red Eagle Order I class with oak leaves and numerous other high awards, Alvensleben was one of the most highly decorated officers of the Prussian army . His illness and early death at the age of 52 ended his further military career.
family
Alvensleben married on June 10, 1800 Caroline von Hirschfeld (1783–1849), daughter of the Prussian general Karl Friedrich von Hirschfeld and his wife Karoline Friederike Philippine, née von Faggyas. The marriage produced eleven children, including the later Lieutenant General Hermann von Alvensleben (1809–1887).
