Hermann von Alvensleben

Hermann Karl Rudolf Gebhard von Alvensleben (born April 10, 1809 in Schochwitz ; † January 8, 1887 ibid) was a Prussian lieutenant general and owner of the Schochwitz manor .

Life

origin

Hermann comes from the Low German noble family von Alvensleben . He was a son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Johann Friedrich Karl II. Von Alvensleben (1778–1831) and his wife Karoline, née von Hirschfeld (1783–1849).

Military career

After visiting the Berlin Cadet House , he joined the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps of the Prussian Army on July 28, 1827 as porter ensign . During the war against Austria in 1866, he led the 1st Cavalry Division as Major General in the Cavalry Corps of the 1st Army. After the war he was promoted to lieutenant general and commander of the Guards Cavalry Division . On September 5, 1867, Alvensleben was initially entrusted with the management of the business as head of the Military Riding Institute in Hanover and appointed on December 14, 1867 as head. On the occasion of the war against France , at the end of July 1870, he was appointed governor-general in area I. , II. , III. and X. Army Corps under General Vogel von Falckenstein . A month later he was ordered to Bremen to organize the guarding of the coast from Dorum to Emden . Alvensleben was released from this control at the end of March 1871 and put up for disposal on April 15, 1871 with a pension .

After saying goodbye, he retired to his Gut Schochwitz.

Alvenslebenstrasse in Hanover was named after him.

family

Alvensleben married on October 6, 1836 in Dobritz with Karoline von Kalitzsch (1814–1878). The marriage had ten children, including:
