history
Since the operators of the Assam tea plantations asked for a rail connection to the port of Chittagong , the Assam Bengal Railway began building rail lines in East Bengal in 1891 . The 150 km section from Chittagong to Comilla was opened in 1895. The Comilla – Akhaura – Kalaura – Badarpur section was opened in 1896–1898 and extended to Lumding in 1903 . The Kulaura – Sylhet section was opened in 1912–15, the Shaistaganj – Hobiganj branch in 1928, the Shaistaganj – Balla branch in 1928 and the Sylhet – Chhatak Bazar line in 1954.
There is also a meter- gauge line from Shahbajpur in Bangladesh to Mahisasan in India .
Trains
There are several trains from Dhaka to Sylhet that have names like Parabot , Jointika and Upbon . The one-way trip takes just over 7 hours. There are also trains from Sylhet to Chittagong.
Train stations
The new Sylhet train station was designed by AK Rafique Uddin Ahmed of Engineering and Planning Consultants Ltd. designed and opened in 2004. The roof construction, reminiscent of lotus blossoms, spans the functional buildings like umbrellas and is reminiscent of the Kamalapur train station building.
management
The railway line, built for political, strategic and commercial reasons, was initially under British control under the legislation of the time. State control over the railroad was legislative, contractual and executive. Management exercised detailed control over the overall operation of the railway.
The first regulation on the rail tariff in the British Parliament in 1854 already included the payment of the fare before boarding, the presentation of a ticket on request, penalties for fraudulent attempts, unauthorized access to the tracks and obstruction, as well as baggage handling and the liability of the railways. Parliamentary enactments were followed by a number of complementary laws enacted over the years relating to control, accidents, violation, inspection, protection of the public and appointment of responsible persons.
Since a general railway law had long been required, the British Parliament passed the Indian Railway Act IX of 1890 and repealed all previous laws. However, the legal situation changed with the Government of India Act 1935. Bangladesh only took over the powers after its independence in 1971.
