Lumding is a city in the state of Assam in eastern India . Lumding belongs to the Nagaon district and is located 80 km south-southeast of the district capital Nagaon . The Brahmaputra River flows 100 km north of the city in a westerly direction. A main road leads to the eastern cities Diphu and Dimapur in addition to a rail link.
As a city, Lumding has the status of a Municipal Board and had 31,000 inhabitants at the 2011 census. 97% of the population are followers of Hinduism , 1.45% are Muslims .
