Diphu ( Assamese : ডিফু Ḍiphu [ ˈdipʰu ]) is a city in the Indian state of Assam . It is the administrative center and largest city of the autonomous district of Karbi Anglong . The population was 61,797 in the 2011 census. 80% of the population are followers of Hinduism , 11.6% Christians , 6% Muslims .

Diphu is located at an altitude of almost 200 meters above sea level on the banks of the river of the same name. Diphu is connected to the railway network via the railway line from Guwahati via Lumding to Dibrugarh .

Diphu has been a Town Committee since 1961 .
