Competition mode

The choirs are divided into categories that summarize comparable casts (e.g. children, youth, men, women, mixed choirs) or comparable artistic orientations (e.g. pop, gospel, folklore choirs, church choirs). It is also possible for a choir to stand in several categories of the jury. The five to seven-member jury assesses the performance level of the choirs using defined criteria. The competitions take place in several stages.

There are no prerequisites in the Open Competition . Choirs from all over the world are admitted to this section regardless of their current level of performance, and choirs with little or no competition experience are expressly invited. The participants find out their level of performance through the jury evaluation and receive a certificate. If a minimum number of points has been reached, the choir can be forwarded directly to the next level.

The European Champions Competition is designed for experienced choirs from Europe who have already proven their level of performance in other international competitions, meet objective admission criteria, have been recommended by a national ministry of education or a choir association or have qualified by participating in a preceding qualification concert with a jury decision .

The Grand Prix of Nations has been taking place at the same time as the European Choir Games since 2015. This is not only reserved for European choirs, but is open to choirs from all over the world. Since then, the Grand Prix has represented the third stage of the competition, for which the entry requirements are similar to those for the European Champions Competition.
