Günter Titsch (born January 28, 1946 in Heidenpiltsch , Silesia , today Bílčice, Okres Bruntál , Czech Republic ) is the initiator of the World Choir Games and founder and president of the INTERKULTUR eV association

Life

Günter Titsch's family moved to Hesse the year he was born, first to Dorf-Güll in Central Hesse, and from there to Grüningen, where Titsch spent his youth. After an apprenticeship and further training in Frankfurt, he passed the examination as a tax agent, later went to Stuttgart and Düsseldorf as a systems analyst for the computer manufacturer ICL . In the 1970s he worked as a freelance IT consultant and trainer for various European companies.

In the second half of the 1980s, the enthusiastic choir singer Titsch decided to dedicate himself full-time to the organization of choir competitions and festivals. In 1988 he organized the 1st Budapest International Choir Competition in Hungary. In 1990 he founded the INTERKULTUR association , which he expanded into a globally active organization of the international choral movement. The World Choir Games he initiated have taken place every two years on different continents since 2000, stations between 2000 and 2018 were Austria, Korea, Germany, China, the USA, Latvia, Russia and South Africa. Twenty years after the World Choir Games was founded, the Olympic Games of Choral Music are once again taking place in the heart of Europe, in Flanders , Belgium , with Antwerp and Ghent as host cities.

Honorary positions and honors

Günter Titsch, he received various national and international recognitions for his activities to promote choral music. In 2012 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. In this context, the Hessian Prime Minister Volker Bouffier praised Titsch as the “musical ambassador of our country”. His commitment to the culture and society of the Federal Republic of Germany is the central motive for the award.

In 2009 Titsch received honorary citizenship from the southern Chinese port city of Xiamen in recognition of his achievements at the 2006 World Choir Games there . In 1990, Titsch was honored with a letter of honor from the State of Hesse for his many years of voluntary work in numerous associations in his home country . The Hessian Singers Association emphasized its commitment to the youth choirs.

As one of around 300 curators of the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation in Frankfurt, Titsch is committed to promoting young German sportspeople.
