Emanuel Joseph Sigismund von Borwitz (born January 15, 1773 in Kablau ( Neumarkt district ), † June 22, 1842 in Schweidnitz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Sigismund Ignatus Xavenius Benjamin von Borwitz (1742-1803) and his wife Franziska, born von Frankenberg (1745-1803) (from Gut Kolbaczin). His father was the master of Kablau, Neudorf and Gebel.

Military career

Borwitz received his education at the grammar school in Breslau . On November 1, 1789, he appeared as a corporal corporal in the infantry regiment "of Wendessen" the Prussian army and advanced to October 1805 First Lieutenant . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the Battle of Jena and was then made inactive.

After the war Borwitz received his resignation as captain , but was still allowed to wear his uniform. When the Wars of Liberation began, he was reinstated as a major on March 26, 1813 and came to the 5th Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment as a battalion leader. Borwitz fought in the battles of the Katzbach , Laon and Paris as well as in the battles at Thionville, St. Dizier, Vitry, Montmirail , Chateau-Thierry , le Fere, and Triport. For Paris he was awarded the Iron Cross II Class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class.

After the war, Borwitz was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1817 with a patent from April 14, 1817 . On March 12, 1820, battalion commander in the 10th Landwehr Regiment and on October 30, 1822 was appointed commander of the 7th Infantry Regiment . In this position Borwitz was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1824 with a patent from March 31, 1824 . On September 9, 1828 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class and on December 27, 1830 he was appointed inspector of the substitute battalions of the 5th Army Corps with a bonus of 300 thalers . With pension Borwitz resigned on March 27, 1831 Major General from active service. The inspection of the replacement battalions of the V Army Corps remained with him until he was finally released from this task on November 14, 1831. He died on June 22, 1842 in Schweidnitz.

family

Borwitz married Albertine Charlotte Henriette Friederike von Schorsee (born February 12, 1783) in Breslau on September 29, 1802, a daughter of Captain Hans Adolf Ludwig von Schorsee. The couple had several children:
