Ludwig Johann Wilhelm August von Schoeler (born March 19, 1798 in Münster , † February 9, 1866 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian infantry general and governor of Magdeburg .

Life

August was a son of the Prussian infantry general Friedrich von Schoeler (1772-1840) and his wife Auguste Wilhelmine, born von Kunitzky (1776-1858), a daughter of the major general Franz Georg Gneomar von Kunitzky .

Military career

Schoeler occurred on April 10, 1815 Musketeer in the 12th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army and became mid June 1915 to sergeant . In the wars of liberation he took part in the battles at Ligny and Belle Alliance as well as the battle at Gosselies and the bombardment of La Fere during the summer campaign.

After the war, Schoeler was promoted to second lieutenant until the beginning of April 1816 . On February 14, 1818, he was aggregated to the Kaiser Alexander Grenadier Regiment , on January 11, 1819, and promoted to Prime Lieutenant in mid-August 1825 . On May 1, 1826, he was assigned to the topographic office in Berlin. From there he was assigned to the Great General Staff and transferred here at the end of March 1831. Schoeler came a year later as a captain in the general staff of III. Army Corps and from there promotion to Major on May 8, 1839, to the General Staff of the IV Army Corps . On March 31, 1846 he was appointed wing adjutant to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-October 1846 . On August 22, 1848 he was appointed commander of the Guards Sergeant Company and on November 29, 1849 was awarded the Order of St. John . On May 8, 1849 he was promoted to colonel and at the same time assigned to the 1st Guard Regiment on foot for six months . After his return he was then transferred to the 38th Infantry Regiment on December 4, 1849 as commander . This was followed by a post as commander of the 9th Infantry Brigade from February 19 to May 3, 1852 . Then Schoeler received command of the 16th Infantry Brigade and was promoted to major general on March 22, 1853. From May 7, 1857, he was in command of the 9th Division . In this capacity Schoeler was awarded Lieutenant General on October 15, 1857 and at the end of December of the following year he was awarded the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern . In the run-up to the coronation of Crown Prince Wilhelm , he received the long-orphaned post as governor of Königsberg on May 13, 1861 . On July 24, 1861, Schoeler was transferred to the army officers and on October 18, 1861, on the occasion of the coronation of King Wilhelm I, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves. On July 2, 1862 he became governor of Magdeburg and on June 15, 1864 Schoeler received the character of general of the infantry. On September 10, 1864, he took his leave and retired with the award of the First Class Crown . He was then on 16 November 1864 board for disposition made before he died in Magdeburg on 9 February. 1866

Schoeler married Ottilie von Schoeler (1809–1890) on October 15, 1827, a daughter of General Moritz von Schoeler (1771–1855). The couple had several children;
