Franz Georg Gneomar von Kunitzky

Franz Georg Gneomar von Kunitzky (born June 1, 1735 in Brück (Kr.Bütow), † February 4, 1799 in Wesel ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently chief of infantry regiment No. 44 .

Life

His father was Franz von Kunitzky heir of Brück. He went to the Cadets in Berlin on June 18, 1750. He was poor but very tall, so he joined the Guard. On May 6, 1756, he was initially a non-commissioned officer in the unranked of the 1st Battalion of the Guard. He became a corporal on June 16, 1756 and took part in the Seven Years War . He fought in the battles of Kolin , Leuthen , Liegnitz , Torgau and the siege of Breslau. During this time he was ensign on January 18, 1758 and on November 25, 1763 Premier-Lieutenant. It was not until January 25, 1773 that he became staff captain, and on February 25, 1773, captain and company commander. As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . Then on June 16, 1784 he became major, on May 20, 1784 Lieutenant Colonel. In 1786 King v. Kunitzky the order Pour le Mérite . and on August 10, 1786 appointed him commander of 1st Battalion No. 15 Life Guard. Promotion to colonel took place on June 6, 1788 and on January 9, 1793 he was finally major general and chief of infantry regiment No. 44 (Dohna ) in Münster, which from then on bore his name. He then fought in the First Coalition War in numerous campaigns, for example in the battle of Kaiserslautern (also: Moorlautern), Famars , in the battle of St.Amand, Schwalm, Scheid, St.Imbert, Saarbrücken, Johanniskreuz. In the battle near Trippstadt he was seriously injured by a shot in the abdomen. From July 16, 1794 to September 30, 1794 he was therefore in the hospital in Mainz. He died a few years later, on February 4, 1799, of the long-term effects of the injury.

He married Anna Sophie Katharina Rahel Denkert (* October 6, 1748, † May 19, 1814) in Potsdam , the daughter of one of the Guard Grenadiers. The couple had the following children:

The king deeply regretted the death of his general and first sent a letter of condolence to the widow. From February 5, 1801, she also received an annual pension of 120 thalers.
