Johannes Peters (politician, 1899)

Johannes Peters (born May 29, 1899 in Verne in the Büren district ; † December 25, 1990 in Münster ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending primary school and graduating from high school, Peters studied law and political science in Münster and Berlin as a working student . There he became a member of the Catholic student union Unitas-Winfridia . Following his doctorate in 1924, he completed an internship at the Association of Rural Cooperatives in Münster. He became an association auditor in 1927, was involved in setting up various sales organizations for agricultural products from 1929 and later headed agricultural sales centers.

Peters first became deputy association director in 1946 and since 1949 was association director and board member of the Association of Rural Cooperatives of the Province of Westphalia Raiffeisen e. V. based in Münster.

Political party

Peters joined the center while studying. In 1945 he was a co-founder of the CDU in Münster and Westphalia . From 1953 to 1956 he was a member of the state board of the CDU Westphalia-Lippe, was a member of the CDU federal party committee from 1949 to 1960 and chairman of the agricultural committee of the federal CDU from 1949 to 1953.

Peters was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament from July 5, 1950 to 1970 .

Public offices

Peters held office from January 1, 1953 to February 28, 1956 as Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry in the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia led by Prime Minister Karl Arnold .
