climate
Like Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Verne belongs to the oceanic climatic area of northwest Germany , to which it owes low temperature differences and mild winters. However, continental influences are already at work . The temperature in summer is higher and the nights are cooler than in closer proximity to the coast. However, the surrounding low mountain ranges are also involved in reducing the amount of precipitation and the higher number of sunny days .
history
The area of Verne has belonged to the area of the later duchy of Paderborn on the border with the Electoral Cologne Duchy of Westphalia since the early Middle Ages .
After Verne , the named Ministerialengeschlecht the Lords of Verne . These had a knight's seat on the Eulenknapp, which was demolished in 1843, near the Brünnekenkapelle .
From 1575 to 1577 the Lords of Krevet took over the goods of the Lords of Verne through purchase and inheritance.
In 1607 the knight Wilhelm Krevet had the Vernaburg built to move his residence from Freedom in Salzkotten to Verne .
After the male line of Krevet died out in 1638, the von Brenken family acquired part of their possessions, including the Vernaburg .
In 1802 the Paderborn bishopric lost its state independence when it was occupied by Prussia , but fell back to the Kingdom of Westphalia for a few years in 1807 and to Prussia in 1813 after the Napoleonic defeat. Verne was incorporated into the province of Westphalia , founded in 1815, and by decree of the royal government in Minden, came to the Büren district, founded in 1816 . When the districts were divided into offices , Verne came to the office of Salzkotten, which in 1859 was merged with the office of Boke to form the office of Salzkotten-Boke.
In 1954 the Don Bosco School was established in Verne, which belongs to Salzkotten.
Religions
Verne is the oldest living Marian pilgrimage site in Germany. The tradition is based on a pilgrimage that a member of the Verner ministerial family, who in legend bears the name Wilhard, made in 1171 in the entourage of the Saxon Duke Henry the Lion to the Holy Land (and / or to Rome). From this pilgrimage he probably brought back the unique reliquary made of boxwood, the setting of which shows a golden, looped meander ribbon on dark purple, in the fields of which seven golden eagles are painted. The reliquary has been enriched over the centuries. The oldest pieces are still wrapped in Byzantine silk without cedulae and tied with tendons. With these relics a big day trip (approx. 30 km) to Geseke was organized every year , during which even the national and diocese borders were crossed. Approx. In 1220 a Romanesque miraculous image designed as a temporary reliquary was made, in which the relics are now permanently enclosed.
Incorporation
Before 1 January 1975, then-municipality belongs Verne for office Salzkotten Boke in county Buren . When the Sauerland / Paderborn Act came into force on that day, most of the municipalities of the Salzkotten-Boke office and thus also Verne were merged to form the new city of Salzkotten and came with this to the Paderborn district. The legal successor to the dissolved office of Salzkotten-Boke and the municipality of Verne is the city of Salzkotten.
