history

Until 1803 the area of the office belonged to the Hochstift Paderborn and was then annexed by Prussia . Between 1807 and 1813, the former bishopric was part of the Kingdom of Westphalia , the administrative structure of which was based on the French model in departments and cantons.

After the French defeat, the bishopric fell back to Prussia in 1813, which it incorporated into its province of Westphalia . On October 18, 1816, the district of Büren was formed by decree of the royal government in Minden . The demarcation is based on the borders of the cantons from the time of the French occupation. The cantons of Boke and Salzkotten, founded in 1807, continued to exist as an administrative district, known as the mayor's office in Prussia . In 1832 the two communities of Oberntudorf and Niederntudorf came from the Paderborn district to the Salzkotten canton of the Büren district.

In 1844, the two offices of Boke and Salzkotten were set up as part of the introduction of the rural community order for the province of Westphalia in the Büren district .

The Boke office included the communities Anreppen, Bentfeld, Boke, Garfeln, Hörste, Rebbeke, Schwelle and Verlar; the office of Salzkotten covers the municipalities of Oberntudorf, Niederntudorf, Scharmede, Thüle, Upsprunge and Verne. The city of Salzkotten remained free of office, but became the administrative seat of the office of Salzkotten. In 1859 a personal union was ordered for the offices of Salzkotten and Boke, so that both offices have since been administered by a bailiff. Klemens Graf Meerveldt, since 1857 bailiff of the Boke office, took over this double office until his death in 1885. In 1861 the new municipality Mantinghausen was formed in the Boke office from a part of Rebbeke .

In 1938 the offices of Salzkotten and Boke were finally merged to form the office of Salzkotten-Boke . At the same time, the city of Salzkotten lost its freedom of office and was incorporated into the office.

On January 1, 1975, the Sauerland / Paderborn law came into force, which merged almost the entire area of the Büren district with the old Paderborn district. The three northern Lippe communities Anreppen, Bentfeld and Boke came to Delbrück , while the three western Lippe communities Garfeln, Hörste and Rebbeke were incorporated into the city of Lippstadt according to Section 45 of the Münster / Hamm Act and thus became part of the Soest district . The other municipalities of the office were merged to form the new town of Salzkotten and incorporated into the new Paderborn district. The current town of Salzkotten is the legal successor to the office of Salzkotten-Boke.
