Ioan C. Toma

Ioan C. Toma (born December 12, 1953 in Kronstadt , Romania ) is a Romanian-German freelance director .

Toma studied in Bucharest from 1972 to 1976 at the Institute for Theater and Film Arts IL Caragiale acting. This is followed by a few more semesters of theater directing.

In 1977 his family moved to Germany.

His career began in 1979 at the Stadttheater Bern . Initially he took on several jobs: acting, assistant director, dramaturgy and directing. In 1981 he moved to the city ​​theater in Essen , where he worked until 1984. In the same year Toma founded the Theater im Würfel in Munich, named after a stage set he designed for the dramatization of Gogol's novella Diary of the Crazy : a tubular steel cube .

In 1988 Toma was hired as in-house director at the Landestheater Linz . By the time he left in 1992 he had staged around 20 highly regarded productions. From 1992 to 1995 he was senior director at the Stadttheater St. Gallen ( Switzerland ).
