The Lichtenau office was an office in the prince-bishopric or principality of Paderborn that existed until 1807 and an office in the east Westphalian district of Büren in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1844 to 1974 .

history

Principality of Paderborn

In the prince-bishopric of Paderborn there had been an office of Lichtenau since the late Middle Ages. It was part of the Unterwald district of the spiritual territory. It included the city of Lichtenau and six other mediate localities. At the end of the 18th century, around 3000 people lived in the office at 566 fireplaces. At its head was a noble Drost , in the 18th century Caspar Moritz von Haxthausen , 1787–1802 his son Werner Adolph Freiherr von Haxthausen .

19./20. century

In 1802/03 Prussia annexed the office and initially continued it in the Principality of Paderborn . After the Napoleonic interlude of the Kingdom of Westphalia (1807-1813, Department of Fulda / District of Paderborn / Canton of Lichtenau ), Prussia took over again the rule. As a result, there were extensive administrative reforms.

In 1844, as part of the introduction of the rural community order for the province of Westphalia in the Büren district, the Lichtenau office was established. The office included the nine communities Asseln , Ebbinghausen , Grundsteinheim , Hakenberg , Herbram , Holtheim , Iggenhausen , Kleinenberg and Lichtenau .
