Neighboring places

Starting in the north, Herbram is bordered clockwise by the Altenbekener district Schwaney , the Lichtenau districts Herbram-Wald , Asseln and Iggenhausen , as well as the Paderborn district Dahl . These places all belong to the Paderborn district .

climate

Like Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Herbram belongs to the oceanic climatic area of northwest Germany , to which it owes low temperature differences and mild winters. However, continental influences are already at work . The temperature in summer is higher and the nights are cooler than in closer proximity to the coast. The location on the edge of the Egge Mountains causes a submontane climate of the low mountain range with cooler temperatures and higher precipitation than in other locations in the district.

history

prehistory

In the border area to the neighboring village of Asseln there is a Bronze Age barrow field. 4 of 16 barrows are north of the stone house in the Feldflur Herbrams .

First mention

In the absence of meaningful sources, no statement can be made about the age of the place. The written tradition only begins in the 13th century.

middle Ages

In 1360 the Lords of Herse pawned six hooves at Herbram to the ravens of Canstein . In the literature, the "Schloss", which is also mentioned and half mortgaged, is associated with Heerse instead of Herbram , with only the "H" as the first letter of the name.

In the Middle Ages, however, was today's St. Johannes Baptist south . Church of the castle of Herbram of the Lords of Herse , which was sold in 1443 together with the majority of the village to the Lords of Westphalia , as the extinction of the Lords of Herse was foreseeable. They carried these goods from Heerse Abbey as a fief.

As early as 1394, the property at Herbram was temporarily divided between the brothers Ludolph and Hermann von Herse . Michael Lagers suspects that Hermann von Herse had the castle built in Herbram because he sold his share of Driburg Castle to his brother in the same year .

Heinrich Valepage , a grandson of Hermann von Herses , tried in vain to use the feud to dispute the sale to Westphal .

Also in 1443 the Westphal acquired the Herbram free court from the inheritance of the Lords of Driburg from the Lords of Oeynhausen and the Rebock . The free chair went to fiefdom from the bishops of Paderborn.

In 1450 the Böddeken monastery sold its goods in Herbram to the Lords of Westphalia because the monastery could not protect them. The Lords of Westphalia thus owned the entire village of Herbram .

The connection between the aforementioned castle and Gut Herbram and Imburg , which has also been lost, can not be verified directly, despite local tradition and the allegedly transferred status as a manor from Herbram Castle , as von Westphalen had three knightly seats in Herbram .

Courts and assignment of office

Until the end of the bishopric of Paderborn , the Lords of Westphalen were entitled to the patrimonial court within the fences of the village of Herbram. In the Feldmark the Gogericht of the "vesten tho Masenheim" was responsible. There was also the Herbram free court mentioned above .

In the late Middle Ages the sovereigns began to administer spatial rights in offices . In the evolving official constitution of the Hochstift Paderborn there was still some restructuring. Herbram belonged to the Dringenberg office around 1600 . At the end of this development, the place was then assigned to the Lichtenau office, although the Dringenberg Rent Office had retained some responsibilities in Herbram . The jurisdiction was also part of the tasks of the offices.

After the Prussian takeover of power, a more modern court system was introduced in 1804, with patrimonial jurisdiction remaining until 1849. In the Kingdom of Westphalia , Herbram belonged to the canton of Lichtenau . The cantons were initially taken over by Prussia. From 1844 it was called Amt Lichtenau again . This assignment remained until 1974.

Municipal reorganization

Before 1 January 1975, the former municipality Herbram belonged to the Office Lichtenau (Westfalen) in county Buren . When the Sauerland / Paderborn Act came into force on this day, most of the municipalities of the Atteln Office were merged with the municipalities of the Lichtenau Office and thus also Herbram to form the new city of Lichtenau (Westphalia) and came with this to the Paderborn district.

The legal successor to the dissolved office of Lichtenau and the municipality of Herbram is the city of Lichtenau.

politics

The Mayor of Herbram was Volker Jung until his death in 2015 .
