geography
Geographical location
Blankenrode is located in the southern Egge Mountains near the source of the Altenau . The place is in the border area to the districts Höxter and Hochsauerland.
Neighboring places
Starting in the northwest, the Lichtenau districts of Dalheim , Husen and Holtheim border Blankenrode in a clockwise direction . Then follows the border of the Paderborn district , behind which the Warburg district of Scherfede in the Höxter district and the Marsberg district of Meerhof in the Hochsauerland district are located.
climate
Like Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Blankenrode belongs to the oceanic climatic area of northwest Germany , to which it owes low temperature differences and mild winters. However, continental influences are already at work . The temperature in summer is higher and the nights are cooler than in closer proximity to the coast. The location on the edge of the Egge Mountains causes a submontane climate of the low mountain range with cooler temperatures and higher precipitation than in other locations in the district.
history
In 836 the place Snevede , "located at the sources of the Altenau", was mentioned in a document.
Around 1250, the bishop of Paderborn founded the castle town of Blankenrode on a mountain head of the Egge as a border fortress against the county of Waldeck , which was owned by Count Heinrich VI. was destroyed by Waldeck in 1384. While the city was not being rebuilt, the castle was first rebuilt and expanded with a bailey. The village of Blankenrode was later founded about 1.5 kilometers west of it.
On August 10, 1952, the municipality of Blankenrode was formed by hiving off the previous municipality of Dalheim-Blankenrode .
Incorporation
Before January 1, 1975, the former municipality of Blankenrode belonged to the Atteln district in the Büren district . When the Sauerland / Paderborn Law came into force on that day, most of the municipalities of the Atteln Office and thus also Blankenrode were merged with the municipalities of the Lichtenau Office to form the new city of Lichtenau (Westphalia) and came with this to the Paderborn district.
The city of Lichtenau is the legal successor to the dissolved office of Atteln and the municipality of Blankenrode.
politics
Michael Schleicher is the mayor of Blankenrode.
