Gerhard Henkel

Gerhard Henkel (born September 28, 1943 in Fürstenberg , Westphalia ) is a geographer and emeritus professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen .

Career

Gerhard Henkel completed his studies in geography and German at the universities of Münster , Würzburg and Cologne . In 1971 he received his doctorate and in 1976 he completed his habilitation. He has been Professor of Geography at the Institute for Geography at the University of Essen since 1980, and University of Duisburg-Essen since 2003. His main focus is human geography with a special focus on historical and current rural and village development . In the media, Gerhard Henkel was referred to as a “lawyer for rural areas” and “German village pope”.
