history

The first documentary mentions can be found in the 12th century. A settlement with the name Erpinchtrop is named around 1138 , city count Heinrich von Paderborn is said to have maintained the Erpingtorp estate as an episcopal fief at the beginning of the century . From 1143 until the family died out in 1437, the estate was owned by the Knights of Iburg and then fell to Dietrich II von Moers , the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn. From 1451 the estate was enfeoffed by the von Schilder family. After this family also died out in 1794, Erpentrup passed into the possession of Clemens August von Mengersen and finally to the von Oeynhausen family at the end of the 19th century .

On January 1, 1970 Erpentrup was incorporated into the city of Bad Driburg.

Origin of name

The final syllable -trup is an old name for -dorf . The front part is less clear and can be the name of a previous owner ( Erpo ) or it can have been derived from Apa or Epe , a historical name for river , through a sound shift .
