Reelsen in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany is now a district of the town of Bad Driburg , Höxter in Detmold .
geography
Reelsen is located at about 220 m above sea level about 3 km north of Bad Driburg and is still surrounded by the villages of Alhausen , Bad Hermannsborn , Bembüren , Merlsheim and Langeland . In terms of nature , Reelsen already belongs to the Sandebecker Hügelland in the eastern Egge foothills of the Lower Saxony mountainous region . In the east of Reelsen, the stream Aa flows past the village, which flows into the Nethe at Brakel . Reelsen is located at the eastern foot of the Eggegebirge and is in a clockwise direction from Reelsener Berg (260 m), Hoppenberg (350 m), Nackenberg (300 m), Rusterberg (260 m), Kreuzberg (297 m), Kampe-Schöneberg (292 m) , Meeberg (325 m) and Kronenücken (292 m) included.
history
Stone Age finds such as two Neolithic axes and barrows from the Bronze Age in the Reelsen area and the surrounding area prove that the area has been inhabited for 7,000 years.
Reelsen is mentioned for the first time in 1197 in a document from three knights from the vicinity of Peckelsheim as part of the crusades .
From 1861 to 1864 the railway was built by Reelsen, at the same time the Reelsener tunnel was broken and the road cut across the Reelsener Berg with the Reelsener Kreuz was created. In 1908 the road over the 427 m high Rehberg to Altenbeken was completed near Langeland . In the same year Reelsen got a water pipe and in 1923 there was electric light for the first time.
On January 1, 1970 Reelsen was incorporated into the city of Bad Driburg. In 1997 there was a big 800th anniversary celebration.

The Altenbeken – Kreiensen railway runs past Reelsen . The Reelsen stop on Bembürener Weg, created in 1905, was only served until 1983. The next train station is in Bad Driburg, the next long-distance train station is the Altenbeken train station about 8 km away . The regional bus route 576 connects Reelsen every hour on weekdays with Bad Driburg and the district of Sandebeck in the city of Steinheim with individual connections to Steinheim. Individual trips on line 575 ( Nieheim - Bad Driburg) also lead via Reelsen.
Reelsen is on the L954 to Detmold . The next trunk road is the B64 between Paderborn and Höxter , motorway connections are 30 km west of the A33 - Paderborn / center and 35 km south of the A44 - Diemelstadt. The nearest airport is Paderborn / Lippstadt Airport, around 45 km away .

The local Catholic Church of St. Martinus Reelsen belongs to the parish of the Assumption of Mary, Pömbsen of the Bad Driburg Pastoral Association. St. Martinus was consecrated on July 2, 1911.
education
- The location of the community elementary school Pömbsen-Reelsen in Reelsen was given up in the second half of 2009 and relocated to Pömbsen. The next elementary school is now in Bad Driburg.
- After the renovation and expansion of the old school building, the day care center "Löwenzahn" was opened there in 2009. The institution is run by the city of Bad Driburg; all-day childcare is also offered.
