The place was first mentioned in 881 when King Ludwig III. the residents of the free Mark Hörste placed under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Paderborn . The Church of St. Martinus was first mentioned in a document in 1216. In order to maintain the church, lands within the parish were bequeathed to the church. On these lands, the lighting for the churches was mainly to be provided. A so-called “ wax interest ” was charged for this purpose. Several times there were disputes about this, which caused the Provost Gottschalk of Paderborn to draw up a document that was supposed to ensure that the land was permanently transferred to the church. Some years later there were again problems so provost Lambert each with the excommunication threatened, would dare continue to violate the ecclesiastical legislation.

In the course of the municipal reorganization, the place was added to the city of Lippstadt on January 1, 1975 and thus lost its independence after more than a thousand years.
