geography

Geographical location

Rebbeke is located directly on the Lippe in the southeast of the Westphalian Bay . The place belonged to the duckbill of the old district of Büren .

Neighboring places

Rebbeke is bordered by the Delbrück district of Westenholz and the Salzkotten district of Mantinghausen (both district of Paderborn , administrative district of Detmold ) and the Lippstadt districts of Garfeln , Hörste and Lipperode , starting in the north in a clockwise direction .

Local division

In addition to Rebbeke itself, Mettinghausen and Niederdedinghausen also belong to the former community of Rebbeke, today's Lippstadt district .

history

Old school Mettinghausen

Like the neighbors on the northern bank of the Lippe, Mantinghausen and Niederdedinghausen, Rebbeke also goes back to Old Saxon settlements, as indicated by the use of the word -husen (for houses, settlement ). Furthermore, it can be assumed that methine was the first settler or the founder of the village. According to the place-name research, all three settlements Rebbeke, Mettinghausen and Niederdedinghausen can be assigned to the Saxon conquest of the early Middle Ages . This date of origin is not confirmed by documentary evidence.

The first documentary mention of Mettinghausen, villa Methinchusen , comes from 1194 through a deed of the parish church of Hörste. A medieval mention of Rebbeke himself is not yet known. Ecclesiastically, all three places belong with high probability to the parish of Hörste since the high Middle Ages. Possibly the proximity to this old church is the reason why neither a church nor a chapel has been built in Rebbeke .

The Rebbeke area has belonged to the area of the later Paderborn Monastery since Carolingian times .

In 1802 the Paderborn bishopric lost its state independence when it was occupied by Prussia , but fell back to the Kingdom of Westphalia for a few years in 1807 and to Prussia in 1813 after the Napoleonic defeat. Rebbeke is incorporated into the province of Westphalia , which was founded in 1815, and by decree of the royal government in Minden comes to the Büren district, founded in 1816 .

The four farmers Mantinghausen , Mettinghausen , Niederdedinghausen and Rebbeke together form the community Rebbeke.

When the districts are divided into offices , Rebbeke comes to the office of Boke, which in 1859 is merged with the office of Salzkotten to form the office of Salzkotten-Boke . In 1861 Mantinghausen was separated from Rebbeke and became an independent municipality.

Religions

The majority of the population of Rebbeke is Catholic and belongs within the Esbeck-Hörste-Bökenförde pastoral network to the Catholic parish of Sankt Martinus Hörste of the Lippstadt-Rüthen dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

Incorporation

Before 1 January 1975, the former municipality Rebbeke part of the Office Salzkotten Boke in county Buren . With the entry into force of the Münster / Hamm Act on this day, the three western Lippe municipalities of the office, in addition to Rebbeke, Garfeln and Hörste, will be incorporated into the city of Lippstadt, previously the district of Lippstadt , and thus come to the district of Soest , administrative district of Arnsberg .
