Bökenförde is a district of Lippstadt in North Rhine-Westphalia with 1520 inhabitants .

location

Bökenförde has been a district of Lippstadt since 1975 and is located about four kilometers southeast of the city at the confluence of the Gieseler and Pöppelsche rivers .

history

The place name is derived from "Buchenfurt" (see Furt ). According to a different interpretation, the name means "muddy ford". Until 1956 the place name was written with "ck", Böckenförde, and then changed to "Bökenförde". The former municipal coat of arms shows a red beech tree standing in the water, which as a 'speaking coat of arms' is supposed to indicate the village name, Buchenfurt.

The first documentary mention of the place was on October 24, 1005, when King Heinrich II gave the estate (predium) in "villa Puochincfurti" (Bökenförde settlement) to the Paderborn bishop Rethar ; Heinrich had previously received this property from his court chaplain Meinwerk , who later became Bishop of Paderborn (1009-1036), by donation.

The parish church of St. Dionysius after Dionysius of Paris , a Romanesque pillar basilica from the 12th century (extension in the 16th century to include a Marienkapelle and 1900 transepts and a new choir), has been a place of pilgrimage since 1719. The miraculous image “Mother of the Divine grace ”(Mater divinae gratiae) has been venerated in the Bökenförder Church since the 16th century. In the course of the revival of the veneration of the Virgin Mary at the beginning of the 1860s, numerous wayside shrines and in 1864 the pilgrimage chapel "Brünneken" including a fountain were created in the Bökenförde field corridor.

Well known is the moated castle Schwarzenraben belonging to Bökenförde , which was built between 1748 and 1765 according to the plans of Johann Matthias Kitz .

On January 1, 1975, Bökenförde was incorporated into Lippstadt.
