St. Dionysius (Bökenförde)
The Catholic parish church of St. Dionysius is a listed church building in Bökenförde , a district of Lippstadt in the Soest district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
History and architecture
In 1005, King Heinrich II gave extensive property in Bökenförde to Bishop Rethar von Paderborn. The estate in Bökenförde predium in villa bochinvordi had previously been made available to the king by his court chaplain Meinwerk , whom he appointed as Bishop of Paderborn in 1009 , for the donation. A church is also included in the list of goods, so that the Bökenförder Church is regarded as a separate church of the Immedinger family.
The Romanesque , arched pillar basilica of two bays was built in the 12th century. Tower and church make a powerful impression. In the old part of the church there are square central nave bays . A transept was added around 1900. There were originally wall apses in the side aisles , the beginnings of which are still preserved. The side aisles are equipped with longitudinal barrel vaults with stitch caps . About half of the north aisle was replaced by a Gothic extension in the 16th century . The tower hall has been open to the nave since 1900 . The church has been a place of pilgrimage since 1719.
