Bad Waldliesborn is a district of Lippstadt in the eastern Münsterland with around 5000 inhabitants and a state-approved spa .
history
The place Bad Waldliesborn goes back to part of the Suderlage farmers of the neighboring municipality of Liesborn, which was independent until 1975 (today part of Wadersloh ). Suderlage was first mentioned in a document in 1165. The history of Bad Waldliesborn began with a mistake. In 1900, a Bochum drilling company suspected hard coal in the region . Test drillings were undertaken in the immediate vicinity of the route of the former Rhedaer Bahn and instead of coal, one of the most mineral-rich springs in Germany was found. The Hamburg wholesaler Wilhelm Eichholz recognized a marketing opportunity in the brine and began building a spa in 1904 near the source. The bathhouse and the "Lindenhof" were among the first spa facilities. The number of guests and residents grew steadily during the founding period. Since May 1, 1913, the spa has been called "Bad Waldliesborn".
In 1922 a children's rest home was built, from 1929 to 1930 the Catholic parish church of St. Josef . The children's recreation home was converted into the guest house in 1962. Bad Waldliesborn has been a state-approved spa since 1974. Since January 1st, 1975 it belongs to the city of Lippstadt. The abbreviation "Walibo" for the place is common.

Spa
Bad Waldliesborn's natural brine flows from two brine springs and is used for various therapies, mainly for orthopedic ailments. The thermal brine bath with over 1250 m² is the largest in the Soest district and in the region. With the Eichholz Clinic and the Panorama Rehabilitation Clinic, the town has two health facilities that specialize in rehabilitation after orthopedic operations and cardiological diseases. In the village there is a spa theater in the guest house and a spa park of over 20 hectares. In the spa park there is a sculpture path with over 20 works of art by the sculptor and sculpture founder Bernhard Kleinhans (1926–2004). A tree discovery trail provides information about the tree population, which includes exotic species such as ginkgo, mammoth and trumpet trees.
coat of arms
The green head of the shield is intended to symbolize the landscape and the spa gardens of Bad Waldliesborn. The wave that divides the coat of arms points to the Glenne , a tributary of the Lippe , and to the use of the brine springs in the village. In the lower area of the escutcheon there is a red bucket helmet on a gold-colored background, with red fallow deer antlers as a crest, which is linked to the historical coat of arms of the von Suderlage family.
traffic
The station Bad Waldliesborn was due to the now disused railway line Rheda-Wiedenbrück-Lippstadt (Rhedaer train) .
