Yakari

Yakari is the hero of a comic series of the same name from the Swiss Romandie , which was invented by the copywriter André Jobin ( Job ) and the illustrator Claude de Ribaupierre ( Derib ). The first comic appeared on December 12, 1969 in the school magazine Le Crapaud à lunettes, which was published in French-speaking Switzerland . From volume 40, Joris Chamblain took over the complete work on the scenario.

The main character is the little Indian boy from the Sioux Yakari tribe , who one day notices that he can talk to animals. His best friend is his horse Kleiner Donner . His totem animal , the great eagle , acts as protector . With him and his human friends he experiences many adventures in which the North American wildlife plays an important role. The comic is primarily aimed at children, but in many cases also addresses adults.

People

Yakari , the protagonist of the stories, is a young Sioux . Yakari stands out mainly because of his great love for nature and animals. He is the only one in the tribe who has the ability to talk to animals. He got this ability from Big Eagle , his totem. As a result, he won many friends and allies among the forest dwellers in the past. Yakari wears a fringed leather shirt, brown leather pants and a loincloth . He also wears moccasins or sandals . His trademark is a feather that is always in his hair. He dresses in the style of the plains Indians . Yakari is the only Indian whose name has no other meaning.
Rainbow is an Indian girl and Yakari's best friend. She is about the same age as Yakari. She very often accompanies him on his adventures. Rainbow usually wears a fur skirt and a chain.
Bold look is Yakari's father and great role model. Bold look is considered a great hunter and proud fighter, which is actually the opposite of the clumsy Yakari at the beginning. He is a good and understanding father who is very attached to his family. Bold look usually wears simple chains around his neck, leather pants and a loincloth.
The one who knows everything is the medicine man (shaman) of Yakari's village and is considered to be open to other people. He dresses in traditional dress of the medicine men of the Sioux and usually wears a coat with buffalo - horns on his head.
Little Badger is an Indian boy and friend of Yakari who dreams of becoming a great hunter and warrior who proves his courage. He undoubtedly has great talent in archery . Little badger usually only wears brown leather pants and a loincloth.
Stiller Fels is the tribal elder of Yakari's village. He trains the young warriors and likes to tell them stories from the past. He is considered a kind-hearted person who likes to have a joke with the young warriors every now and then. Silent rock usually wears a fur and walks on a stick.
Swift Turtle is the tribal elder and Yakari's grandmother. She and Stiller Fels have been good friends since early childhood and often tell the children stories from earlier times about great warriors and strange incidents.
Shimmering Braids is Yakari's mother. She is usually in a good mood, an excellent cook and good healer.
Dracula is a wandering warrior who feels called to hunt the rarest and most unusual of all animals. The hunter has a whole collection of white animal skins in his teepee and wants to add Snowball's fur to his collection. He bumped into Yakari several times and sees him as a serious threat. A tense bow is a rather unsympathetic person who is very rough and harsh with other people. He is also considered brutal and deceitful.
Big Bow is also a wandering hunter. However, in contrast to Gespannter Bogen it is of a gigantic shape. Besides, he's mute. He is a friend of Yakari's tribe, even though he is not a member of the tribe. He helped Yakari tame Free Cloud.
Tired Warrior is a tribe Indian. He is noticeable for his slow reaction speed, until he reacts to one event, another has often already occurred.
Fat Eye always sleeps next to a tent.

Animals

Big Eagle is a bald eagle and Yakari's totem , which Yakari assists with his wisdom and advice. He gave Yakari the gift of speaking the language of animals. Great eagle does not appear in all of Yakari's stories, but it is the symbol of Yakari's strength and power. He seems to be extremely wise and intelligent, which is also reflected in his messages.

Little Donner is a white and black spotted pony and Yakari's best friend. Little Donner supports Yakari and helps him when he has doubts about his abilities. He is quick and very brave - unless there is a thunderstorm. He is actually the second main character alongside Yakari.

Nanaboso is a rabbit who has the ability to perform magical feats. He is also Rainbow's totem. It usually occurs towards the end of the story. Nanaboso has taken rainbow and yakari on many trips and taught them things from prehistoric times.
The beavers are funny fellows that yakari often encounter. Lindenbaum in particular , a young beaver , gets along very well with yakari.
Snowball is a snow-white bear that is often pursued by the Arched Bow, but Yakari was always able to save him.
Knickohr is the name of Yakari's dog. The clever dog is always one step ahead.

In French Original language the series consists of 39 volumes, which since 1999 by the Belgian comic book publisher Le Lombard as hardcover are issued, Volume 39 was published in October 2016th Before that, it was published by Editions 24 Heures for the Swiss, Rossel for the Belgian and Dargaud for the French market. Volume 39 is the last that was produced by co-inventor Jobin, the work is to be continued by Joris Chamblain.

From 1974, Yakari was translated into German by the publishing house Schweizer Jugend in Olten. For the market in Germany, and later also in Switzerland, Carlsen Comics published 26 volumes as soft covers between 1977 and 2001 , and since July 2006 another ten volumes have been published as soft covers by Salleck Publications , and this publisher has also been running new volumes since 2009 Edition as hardcover. The German editions have the same cover as the French.

Since 2005, 17 volumes in English have been published by Cinebook .

TV Shows

In 1983 Graphoui produced a 52-part television series of five minutes each based on the comic. This was broadcast by Antenne 2 in France from September 13, 1983 .

In 2005 a second television series was produced by 2 Minutes, Belvision, Radio Télévision Belge Francophone (RTBF) and Storimages. Delphine Pialot was the producer. The 78 episodes of 12 minutes each were broadcast by France 3 in seven seasons from December 24, 2005 in France. In March 2008, the television series started on KiKA in German. The 78 episodes are spread over two seasons. A further 26 episodes have been shot since 2013, and the broadcast on KiKA began in 2014 as season 3. From December 2016, another 26 new episodes were broadcast as season 4 in KiKA, which increased the total number of episodes to 130 and from November 2017 another 26 as season 5. The last two seasons (4 and 5) are available on Netflix , but in a mixed order and always combined two episodes (as of spring 2020).

Yakari Musical film still

In 2013 the children's musical Yakari - Friends For Life by the composer Thomas Schwab was premiered in the Liederhalle Stuttgart. Film and theater scholar Andreana Clemenz is directing. Alex Burgos is responsible for the choreography. The CD for the musical was released on March 29, 2013. A live DVD, which was recorded on April 19, 2013 in the Arena Trier, was released on September 13, 2013. In 2013 and 2014, the musical was performed 74 times in Germany and Switzerland and performed on the open-air stage in Elspe. In 2015 a tour through 30 cities with a total of 58 shows follows.
