The loincloth is a piece of clothing , usually made of leather or fabric . The apron is a basic piece of clothing that has been used around the world in various forms, such as a string , dhoti or lungi .

The loincloth was z. B. the typical garment of the Indians of North America. In Japan, too, the loincloth, called fundoshi , was the typical underwear for men. Fundoshis have recently also been offered to women in Japan .

A typical loincloth is pulled through between the legs and under a belt , over which it then hangs freely, protecting and covering the pubic area. Other forms consist of a part that hangs from a belt over the pubic area. Another form is a longer strip of fabric that is wrapped around the waist and then pulled through the legs. The two ends then hang down over the genitals and buttocks .

In addition to hiding the genitals, a loincloth can also serve as an expression of belonging to a social, professional or age group.

Occasionally, the loincloth is also used as clothing for the bottom in BDSM .
