geography

location

Lipperbruch is about four kilometers north of Lippstadt. Lipperbruch is the northernmost place in Southeast Westphalia . This is where the administrative districts of Arnsberg , Münster and Detmold meet.

landscape

The "Lipper Bruch" was a quarry landscape, a mixture of swamp and moor , which was characterized by its difficult accessibility. In addition to plaguing , agriculture was only possible to a limited extent.

history

In 1934, in secret preparation for the reconstruction of an air force, the construction of a glider airfield in the area of the "Lipper Bruch" began. In 1935 the expansion into an air base began , which, like the associated Richthofen barracks south of the airfield, was put into operation in 1936. Thus, it was Lippstadt garrison town again after more than 45 years.

From 1940 the Lipperbruch air base was repeatedly exposed to bomber attacks. On April 19 and October 5, 1944, the air base was badly damaged by air raids. Shortly before the air base was taken by American units in April 1945, all important military buildings were blown up by German Wehrmacht units. In June 1945 the Americans handed over the air base and the Richthofen barracks to the British Army, since the region was in the British zone of occupation . The British Army used part of the former air base as a bomb dropping area. Most of the rest of the former air base was used for agriculture.

On October 29, 1946, the former air base officially became the Lipperbruch district. The British Army built its own barracks on part of the airfield. However, this left the site again in 1956 to move into the former flak barracks in Lippstadt. After a brief use of the barracks site in Lipperbruch by the Federal Customs School, the site was taken over by the Bundeswehr administration in December 1957 and the 71st field artillery battalion moved into the "Lipperland barracks" location.

The housing situation developed dramatically due to the return of soldiers and the admission of refugees and displaced persons after the war. The former barracks buildings were gradually used to alleviate the housing shortage. After the somewhat unclear ownership situation after the war had been clarified, the planned settlement of the Lipperbruch began in 1949. Many refugees and displaced persons came from the east ( Pomerania , East Prussia , West Prussia , Silesia and Sudetenland ). These names can still be found in the Lipperbruch image in settlement and / or street names. Barracks were converted into residential and commercial buildings, and houses were built on the open spaces between the barracks. The settlement area west of the former barracks area, around today's Zwickauer Strasse, is popularly called the bomb settlement , the settlement to the north of it is called the Ermland settlement . In the north, west of Mastholter Strasse, is the Glenne settlement . South of the barracks area, east of Mastholter Strasse, the farmers' settlement was built .

In 1958 the Stadtwerke Lippstadt set up a water extraction system ("Wasserwerk Lipperbruch") between the airfield and the Boker Canal , which is still in use today. In 2007, the Lipperland barracks were released from their function and the area with its properties lay fallow for a few years until an investor was found who incorporated the area in the northern part into the “Business Park Lippe-Ems” and from 2014 the southern part redesigned new residential area ("Lippischer Bruch") for single and multi-family houses.

Churches

In the district of Lipperbruch there are two Christian churches: the Catholic Church of Maria-Frieden (built in 1954/55) and the Evangelical Church of St. Christopher (built in 1959). Churches of other religions are not available on site.
