Etteln is the southern district of the Borchen municipality in the Paderborn district in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ). Etteln's old postcode is 4799 (formerly 4791).

Starting clockwise in the west, Etteln borders the Salzkotten district of Niederntudorf , the Borchen districts of Alfen , Kirchborchen and Dörenhagen , the Lichtenau district of Henglarn and the Bad Wünnenberg districts of Helmern and Haaren .

Witch trials in Borchen

From 1597 to 1611 witch trials were carried out in Borchen in the area of ​​today's Borchen municipality. 13 people from Etteln were charged, nine people were burned for alleged sorcery, including Elisabeth Schaefer , Margaretha Vogt , "The Josepsche" from Etteln and Gertraud Kneips .

Modern times

The Borchen-Etteln motorway junction on the A 33 ( Bad Wünnenberg - Paderborn - Bielefeld ) is only 3 km north of the Wünnenberg-Haaren motorway junction with the A 44 Dortmund - Kassel . The southern extension of the A 33 beyond the motorway junction is the B 480 in the direction of Brilon - Winterberg . A bus line that runs every half hour on weekdays, the R82, connects Etteln northwards with the seat of the municipality of Kirchborchen and the district town of Paderborn and southwards with the Altenau valley and Lichtenau .

Buildings

The Kluskapelle is located a little away from the village . It was built in 1677 and consecrated to St. Lucia on October 21, 1681 by Nicolaus Steno (Niels Stensen) . The occasion was the recovery of Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg from a serious illness. In 1867 the chapel received a new bell after the old one was stolen.
