history

St. Vitus Church in Hegensdorf

The village of Hegensdorf is one of the oldest villages in Buren. In 975, Hegensdorf was first mentioned in a document. At the time, Corvey Monastery owned the area. The town's church was first mentioned in 1353. Your name "St. Vitus ”suggests that it is much older. The residents of Hegendorf have been venerating a holy cross for around 750 years. According to popular tales, the cross answered prayers and performed miracles. The village of Hegensdorf survived the Middle Ages, while neighboring settlements such as Scharboken and Niederandepen fell into desolation. In the early centuries the village belonged to the Büren rule. Since April 1, 1939, the former independent municipality of Keddinghausen belongs to Hegensdorf. On January 1, 1975, Hegensdorf was incorporated into the city of Büren.

In the last 250 years the population of the place doubled. In 2007, as part of a nationwide unique project, Hegensdorf worked on its own contribution to the future-proof connection to the broadband network.
