Siddinghausen is a district of the city of Büren in the Paderborn district in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia and is located on the upper reaches of the Alme in the Almetal. The village has 946 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

geography

Siddinghausen is about four kilometers away from Büren. The place is located in a valley that is bordered by the Mühlenberg in the direction of Büren. On the opposite side, foothills of the Arnsberg Forest border the place.

Siddinghausen lies in the rain shadow of the Sauerland and has a rainfall of around 800 to 850 mm per year.

history

Siddinghausen is one of the oldest places in the Bürener Land . According to tradition, a Saxon nobleman named Sidag built a wooden church on his inheritance. The church was founded in 799 by Pope Leo III. consecrated in the presence of Charlemagne . The settlement that was then built around the church was named "Sidaghusen", from which "Siddinghausen" later developed.

On January 1, 1975, the previously independent place was incorporated into the city of Büren.

Before it was incorporated into the large municipality of Büren in 1975, Siddinghausen was a separate municipality. From the middle of the 18th century until 1975, Siddinghausen had 13 community leaders.

Attractions

The Siddinghausen Church ( St. Johannes Baptist ) and the Siddinghausen Mill on the Alme are particularly worth seeing .

The Johanneseiche is an oak that is over 400 years old in the Ringelstein Forest.

The place is on the country road 637, which leads from Büren to the neighboring village of Ringelstein. Siddinghausen is also connected to the neighboring Kneblinghausen in the Soest district by Kreisstraße 65 .
